The History of Sims Buick GMC: More Than 70 Years of Family Tradition
For more than seven decades, the Sims name has been synonymous with customer service, integrity, and automotive excellence in Northeast Ohio. What began as a family-owned Buick dealership has grown into one of the Mahoning Valley’s most respected automotive destinations, serving generations of customers while continually evolving to meet the needs of today’s drivers.
A Family Legacy Begins
The Sims family’s journey in the automotive industry began in 1953, when the family entered the Buick business in Northeast Ohio. Their commitment to honest business practices and exceptional customer service quickly earned them a loyal customer base and established a reputation that continues today.
In 1970, the Sims family expanded into Warren, Ohio, opening a Buick dealership that would become the foundation of today’s Sims Auto Park. Just three years later, the dealership moved to its current location on Elm Road, providing room to grow and better serve customers throughout Trumbull, Mahoning, and Mercer counties.
Growing With the Community
In 1989, brothers Bill Sims and Ken Sims assumed ownership of the dealership, continuing the family’s commitment to providing a hometown buying experience built on trust and long-term relationships.
As customer needs evolved, so did the dealership. In 1992, Sims added the GMC franchise, expanding its lineup to include professional-grade trucks, SUVs, and commercial vehicles. The addition strengthened Sims’ position as a destination for both personal and business transportation.
The dealership continued to grow in 2001 with the addition of the Nissan franchise, transforming the business into Sims Auto Park and offering customers an even broader selection of vehicles and services.
A New Chapter
Today, Sims Auto Park is embracing an exciting new era under the leadership of CEO and General Manager Greg Davis. Recent investments have focused on creating an exceptional customer experience through “The Sims Standard,” a philosophy centered on transparency, professionalism, convenience, and treating every customer like family.
One of the dealership’s most significant milestones came with the launch of the Sims Truck Center. By transforming the former Nissan facility into a dedicated truck sales, customization, and commercial vehicle center, Sims created a unique destination for truck enthusiasts, business owners, and fleet customers throughout Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania.
From lift kits and wheels to commercial truck upfitting and professional accessory installation, the Truck Center reflects the dealership’s commitment to innovation while expanding the services available to its customers.
Looking Ahead
While the automotive industry continues to evolve, the values that have guided Sims for more than 70 years remain unchanged: honesty, integrity, exceptional customer service, and a commitment to the communities it serves.
Today, Sims Buick GMC continues to help customers find the right vehicle, maintain it for years to come, and now customize it through the Sims Truck Center. It’s a legacy built on family ownership, community involvement, and an unwavering dedication to delivering an outstanding customer experience.
As the dealership looks toward the future, one thing remains constant—Sims Buick GMC is committed to helping customers drive with confidence while continuing a tradition of excellence that has been part of Northeast Ohio for generations.
